Environmental concerns

Noticing changes to our north Lowestoft coastline? What used to be part of the beach is now under water and the dunes are under threat....

These changes have uncovered the buried oil from the Eleni V tanker disaster in 1978 when a tanker broke in two with 3,000 tons of crude oil on board that started into the sea.  The Lowestoft Journal has reported that East Suffolk Council will take action to remove the uncovered oil but it is still there and in the summer it starts to melt (check out our photos from January 2022).

Worried about the Climate Emergency? Interesting talk about retrofitting old/historic houses from Suffolk Preservation Trust; tips for carbon-reducing tips (and energy bills); recent meetings of the climate emergency groups in our area.

Report an environmental issue to us and/or East Suffolk District Council
